How do you get rid of fleas in the home?

What’s the most natural and effective way to get rid of fleas in the home? We visted our vet yesterday and he is giving our Lab oral medication because the topical medication did not work, but now we still have fleas in our house. I’ve vacuumed and washed all the sheets and dog bed in very hot water, but I still get bit!!!

There are so many different products, not sure which is best for my home and what will not harm my dog in any way.

Any advice is greatly appreciated! Thanks!
I don’t need flea medication for my dog, I need it for the house. The dog is taken care of w/ oral medication from our vet.

Is it Time to Put Him to Sleep?

I have read a few similar questions, but I just want to make sure before making a decision. My cat is 16, almost 17, indoor-outdoor cat. He is a natural born fighter, so much so that we have had to lock him in at night to keep him from fighting with the neighborhood pets. A few years ago he lost his left eye during a fight. And now he’s got cataracts in his right, so his vision isn’t very good at all. He has also seemed to experience severe hearing loss, i.e. no longer hears the truck on the drive when he is sitting only four or five feet away. He also used to eat like a pig, sometimes going through two or more bowls of food at night. But now he’s only down to about one, which he doesn’t even always finish. He lost some weight, but has since regained it.
Last year he began to pee all around the house, on furniture, laundry, a bed… But he kept repeatedly peeing on any dog bed he could find. We started locking him out of the house, confining him to the outdoors and to our porch, which only seems to cause more problems. Now he has taken to doing a strange half gargle-half yowl at the back door, wanting inside (or something else, it’s impossible to know for sure). When he is not at the door yowling, he is usually on his kitty-condo sleeping. We don’t know what to do with him since we can’t keep him out, and we can’t let him in. I believe it might be nearing time to put him to sleep, but my mom isn’t sure what to do. Any ideas?

Things that will help minimize shedding?

Bruiser is a short-haired dog. But my, he sheds a ton!!

I have the furminator brush, and the waterless shampoo (which is advertised to have omega 3s for the hair, to minimize shedding… Pfft :P ). I furminate him once a week, taking an entire grocery sized bag of hair off of him! (The hair will be fluffy in the bag, not pushed down and compacted.)

He is fed nutro naturals (Until he finishes this bag. My boyfriends mom bought it for him…. I’m buying the next one. Innova).

Along with his food, he enjoys whole raw eggs, shell and all, carrots, and frozen bananas. He also gets fish oil capsules once every other day.

The house still needs vacuumed every day! And don’t even get me started on his dog beds….

Is there ANYTHING else I can do about this?
I just feel bad brushing him every day with the furminator, as it might agitate his skin that way. :/ And the only other brush I have is a slicker brush.

Is there another sort of brush I should buy?
