dog food vs?

some people say that cost isnt everything when it comes to dog food. for example, i buy pedigree natural which i did not know until today, contains a lot of unnecessary corn and wheat in the food which a dog does not need. if i buy a top brand of food such as innova which is plus, someone on here argued that i would have to feed my dog less because it doesnt contain corn etc. so my dog wont need to eat more to get complete nutrition therefore, in the long run, reducing the amount i have to pay for dog food.
however, everyday i only feed my dog once, and that is a bowlful of pedigree natural mixed with some nature’s gift dog food. if i were to switch to innova or another good brand, i would feed my dog the same amount and end of losing which i cannot afford!
i do not feed my dog extra pedigree to satisfy his appetite. i keep him at healthy weight though sometimes he is a bit dull, like right now where he hasnt finished his food and gone to bed. is something wrong?
thanks all

The last 2 days my puppy has only nibbled on his organic chicken (Innova puppy) and turkey kibble which I usually moisten with a little water otherwise he will not eat dry. Last week I added a spoonful of canned chicken dog food to the kibble instead of water and he gobbled it up. A week later and he doens’t seem to want to eat it. He stares at it and then drinks water and then goes to his day bed. I wet it down again with canned wet dog food and he comes again and walks away. I called my vet and she said just check if anything else unusual is happening. Is there a food that a puppy will just like to eat rather than be Organic? Also are Bully sticks dangerous to the digestive system? It seems to have started back then when I was introduced to it. I know that rawhide can be bad.
3 times a day and the recommended 1 1/2 cups for his size and age throughout the whole day. He used to just scarf his food down in 5 minutes. Now he leaves 1/2 a bowl and maybe eat later. but for dinner he didn’t eat anything. Lots of exercise, walking and play given everyday. I’ll just see how it goes tomorrow.
yes, only puppy food (not human) and limited treats for him.

So this is the very first dog I’m getting, a Yorkshire Terrier to be exact. I’ll list the things I’ve gotten so far, things I plan on getting, and I need help on what type of dog treats to get.

here are the supplies I have so far:
- Kennel/Crate
- Kennel/Crate linning
- Blanket
- Collar
- Harness
- "puppy" harness (i couldn’t help it, i had extra cloth left over… this was supposed to be a chew toy :O)
- nylon leash
- flexi-leash
- small rope toy
- food bowls
- dog food (Brandon Farm’s Natural)
- teddy bear
- x-small AirKong Squeakers (x-mini squeaking tennis balls)
- Mini Chuckit! tennis balls
- Training Pads
- dog bed (later for when it grows up it won’t have to sleep in the crate)
- nail clipper
- shampoo
- frizbee
- this shirt thing im going to get around to making XD
- Comb
- Purina Beggin Strips (x3)
- Milkbone medium-sized bones (original ima break these in half)
- I.D. tag
- Milkbone Fillet Mignon Chewies
- Clippers
- some extra accesories… (from the leftover cloth XD)
Here is a list of what I still need to get:
- Puppy Kong small
- Nylabone (the three pack bone chews)

I’m sorry if i seem a little excessive. XD. But this is my first dog and I want to make sure I’m prepared. I’m going to take Lorelei (my dog) to this nearby pet clinic for her shots, and I have a couple of friends with dogs who’ll introduce me to their vet.
If you don’t have anything nice to say… well I’ll leave it at that.

So…. if I’m missing anything, any treat suggestions, I would love to hear :]
The food is all natural, no meat by-products, wheat, corn meal, or soy… it took me an hour to find a suitable brand! It doesn’t even have food coloring :o

I want to breed my dog… but I’m not sure… so i’m still debating on whether or not to spay her yet…

i’ll keep "put harness on before opening car door" in mind too. yikes i wouldn’t want her to run away on the first day

btw thanks for the comments <3
styptic powder…
toothbrush…
toothpaste…
clean-up bags….

list updated!

To start off, my 11-year-old Chow/Shih-tzu mix has skin allergies (we think it may be seasonal), so when we saw her itching alot a couple of months ago, we thought that it was because of that. So we switched her food to Nutro Natural Choice dog food along with a half can of wet food at night which we mixed in an all-natural supplment powder, fish oil, and a multi-vitamen pill for senior dog. During the day, we would give her a fish oil pill, and twice a week she would get a bath with a anti-itch shampoo that I got from PetSmart. We tried that for about a month, and didn’t really notice any difference.

The next month, we kept her on the all-natural diet with the supplements; but, this time when I gave her a bath, I noticed a couple of fleas on her backend. So I immediately went out and got a flea spray from PetSmart to see if that would work—-it only works to kill the fleas that are on her; it doesn’t stop them from coming back though. So I then went back to PetSmart, and got another flea product to put on her back—that didn’t work. Then I got another flea product that had more good reviews then the last one, along with a all-natural anti-itch spray and anti-chew spray for my dog. The anti-itch spray only works when it’s wet so that doesn’t last long; and the anti-chew spray didn’t really deter her from chewing on herself, and after we sprayed it, everyone in the house was able to taste it.

A couple of weeks ago (after trying everything), I took her to the vet to see if they could finally get rid of the fleas. They gave me a shampoo for irritated skin, predisone, and a steroid pill along with advantage flea treatment for her and my inside/outside cat (which has shown no sign of having fleas on her). They told us that we should Fog the house and outside—–my parents said that we can’t fog the house because we have an in-home daycare business so it would just create a big mess for us to clean up in the daycare, ect. And they thought the backyard was pointless, because my dog goes everywhere outside (different neighborhoods, dog park, downtown, woods in the back of my house)—and we doupt that those people fog their own homes, so when my dog comes into contact with that area there will probably be fleas there. So they went out and got this flea spray (recommended to us by a couple different people) for inside the house—-we washed everything, moved alot of stuff around, and then vacummed everything. We then vacummed the carpets and everwhere that my dog went for the next week, and sprayed again on Sunday. Whenever I do wash (every coupl of days), I always wash my dog’s bedding too. She still has fleas.

Now, my dad thinks that it would be best and easier for us to get my dog shaved down so that we can start from scratch with trying to fight off these fleas; along with buying her and my 12-year-old cat flea collars. I asked the vet about shaving my dog down, and the vet said that it would only irritate my dog’s skin more which I told my dad and other family members—–they all seem to agree with my dad now because we did try everything that the vet said (besides fogging the house and yard), and that didn’t work. So any ideas would be greatly appreciated because I really don’t want to pay someone to shave my dog when that’s not really going to work or help make the process of getting rid of fleas easier. Thanks!
I don’t allow my dog to roam by herself—-whenever I go out, she goes out with me on a leash. When you live in the city, it’s very important to keep your dog socialized; and that’s why I tend to take her everywhere with me.
