We are currently crate training our 3 1/2 month old pointer puppy. She is still learning and has accidents peeing in her crate. I know you aren’t supposed to wash dogs frequently due to dangers of stripping the natural oils of their skin, etc. but how do I clean her up otherwise? We don’t put bedding in the crate b/c of advise given to us that bedding will soak up the accident thereby allowing her to "escape" having to sit in her own mess. But that means that the accident ends up all over her. I was washing her at first before I realized that it wasn’t good for her but now I’m not sure how to clean her. I was also told to clean her up right away after an accident so that she doesn’t get used to the smell and think its ok but how do I accomplish this without overwashing? I recently have been rinsing her with just water and bought some of the puppy wipes but they don’t get the color and smell totally out (she’s a white dog). any suggestions?
How do I house break an "older" dog who will bury his poo in his bed? He’s just shy of a year old, so not "puppy, puppy".
A little background: I got the little guy from a friend of mine. This dog was closed in a bathroom quite a lot, and pooed all over the place. He would not go poo outside, and was actually afraid of outside when we first got him.
He is better than when we first got him, but he will poo in the bathroom and even in my daughter’s room. There doesn’t seem to be a reason for choosing DD’s room rather than the bathroom either.
Just today I found that he had pooed in his bed (for the 2nd time), only this time it looked like he went more than once, and one of them was buried under the bedding. He still will cry to come inside and poo rather than stay outside, and we make him stay outside. However, I cannot be taking the extra time to clean up these instances, and I don’t have the time to be with him the entire time he’s outside to ensure he poos out there….this dog has been known to hold it outside for an hour, then go as soon as we come in…he was completely backwards when we first got him. I’m not being irresponsible, we are moving soon and we homeschool…time is very thin at best.
He’s not a bad dog and I don’t want to get rid of him as a first avenue…but this is just more than I can handle at the moment. Any suggestions that could explain WHY he’s so backwards and freaked out and ways to help him that will work with our time issues? Also, he’s not "fixed" yet…would that help?
One of my best friends and family members went to rest on July 28th, 2009. This is a collection of still photographs that I took of her to celebrate her life. She was the best doggie anyone could ask for. She is a German-Shepard/Chow mix and she went to rest in the presence of my mom in her own bed right before noon. She went to rest all natural…on her own at the rip ‘ol age of 16. Dixie, I love you…small girl. The song that plays during the video is “All the Words” by Kutless.
